WEBNov 28, 2022 · If you lose more than 5 to 6 tablespoons (approximately 80 milliliters) of blood during your period, this is called heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding (doctors also sometimes use the term "menorrhagia"). This can lead to a problem called anemia (low red blood cell count), which can cause fatigue, weakness, and other symptoms.
