Who created the Japanese tea garden in Golden Gate Park?It was an immigrant from Japan named Makoto Hagiwara who was responsible for creating a truly authentic Japanese tea garden in Golden Gate Park. Hagiwara imported many precious plants, sculptures, koi fish, and more from Japan.
What is the tea garden?Originally built as part of the World’s Fair for the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894, the Tea Garden was created as a Japanese Village exhibit.
